Also water made it under the sink wall and got the boards in the corner by the stove. We fixed that the following weekend.

After a weekend of work it was back to new.

We pulled the boards up in the hallway to the front door when it happened and saved them. The bathroom and hall outside the bathroom were damaged.

The bathroom and entry hallway took a swim. To bad we were in the panic "ARGH get the water up" mode to have grabbed the camera to take a picture of our daughter turning the sink into a water table.

What do you get when you mix and 18 month old, a newly plumbed sink and tiolet paper? In our case 3 minutes of fun that results in 2 weekends of cleanup.

Across from the toilet hang this cabinet. Also we added new switches to seperate the fan from the lights. On order are the sink facuets. We need to find some brushed nickle pulls and hindges for the cabinet & mirror .

Wow they make this handy little splatter tool for re-texturing the wall. Worked well except the knockdown ended up a little smaller that the surrounding. O well it will be behind the sink and in the end looks just fine.

All serious weekend projects require drywall repair! Moved the plumping closer together for the pedestal and installed bracing 2x4 for the sink. Fixed the hole I made behind the tiolet removing the linolium and the old toilet paper holder that was in the wall.

Finally onto the downstairs bathroom. This is what it looked like when we started.

It turned out pretty good. The base color was the actual first choice but did no go with the kitchen by itself. With a little gold metalic paint and a brush technique the paint tied in rather well with the rest of the kitchen.

We finally got around to painting the kitchen.

It looks really nice! Now to choose a grount color that goes well with this tile. We initial had purchase a brown grout but we think something whiter with more contrast will look better.

Typical tile install for us. Worry about the thinset application but in the end it turns out ok. Only downside is I need to remove the thinset in some places where it pushed through the grout lines.

The tile cutter worked well. Despite all the little shards of glass, I only got cut once. Had to order this tool twice. First time someone stole it off the door when delivered during the daytime.

Finished the end of the passthrough wall and painted. Alot of detail work now.

Moved the light from the old table location to the new table location. Just need to get the light fixture now. Went to San Francisico and pick up the backsplash tile. Guess I know what I am doing next weekend :).

No more holes in the ceiling. Just need to tape and mud. While I was on lights, I side detoured to put lights in the attic.

Next weekend tackle the last three hallway lights. These will be 6" cans like the kitchen. Check it out. Finally a switch to turn on the lights on near the door that is not 2" from the door! Now that's priceless or at minimum makes a lot more sense!

But in the end it was all worth the effort. Lights - $30, Misc Items - $40, New cordless drill with bonus right angle drill - $99, A day with 2 kids no power and no water - CHAOTIC! As you can see in the picture. One light is not on. Go figure, came with a bad light bulb!

The cold water line also runs right down the center. Well back to OSH I go. Actually this day it was three trips. Trip 1 - Get a new rightangle cordless drill. Trip 2- Parts to move the water line over 6 inches. Trip 3 - Dropped the torch and snapped off the top!

OK so we drop the ceiling to relocate the 2x4 to smack down center + 5 1/2 inches. But wait! If you thought this is alot of work for 3 new lights hang on.

See that 2x4? Well we want to install 3 lights in the center of the entrance hallway. Guess what is in the way? If you said drywall you are only partially right. This is a sofit for the upstairs plumbing and the builders ran a 2x4 smack down the center for support of the drywall.

Well back to the kitchen. Or at least a little closer to it. For the longest time we lived with this hole in the ceiling. Matt did not think this was a big enough hole.

Of course let not another project delay the kitchen. We painted the upstairs hall and installed baseboards. Actually for the major improvement this had, we are supprised we did not paint the stairs earlier.

Ok long time no kitchen update. Well with the trip to GA and many weekends spent on other items the kitchen progress slowed down for awhile. Of course it is not unlike us to start another project before ending one in progress. Welcome kid-proof audio cabinet.

Now we need to get the counter tops. We think we are set on Quartz; a manufactured granite. It is so nice to have the downstairs bathroom back. The dishwasher was hooked up in there during the project, rendering the bathroom useless.

It was a real pain to get into the pantry without handles. Handles make life soo much better!

The results! Got the dishwasher in with the end board. Also finally got the 12" upper cabinet changed out for a 15". Installed it and the undercabinet lighting

I put the handles on the right way. With a homemade jig using parts from the old kitchen. They came out pretty straight.

Mostly completed kitchen. Go figure last door to put up and the hinge holes were drilled in the wrong place. O well still need to make the trip to pick up the other end cabinet. Just change this out then.

Another big checkoff was the installation of the microwave. This seemingly simple task was rather a pain. Had to relocate the outlet to inside the cabinet above the unit. The microwave rear-vents. Had to tap into the vent that runs up the wall. That ment cutting through the drywall and into the metal vent duct. Then there is all these brackets, templates, and go figure the power cord lands right where a cabinet cam was located to hold them together! In the end it looks good with subtle curves that match the oven.

The rooms now flow together much nicer. The light floor also helps to brighten up the kitchen. You can see the bracket for the end cap under the vacum attachment on the floor. I was getting tired of tripping over the metal bracket hench the attachment.

This weekend I finish installing the pantry, leveled the base run with the kitchen sink, figured out the dishwasher end, and as you can see started the floor install. First up, firgue out how to get the two ends to connect without the seems lining up.

Close fit! Everything fit. The walls are a bit uneven but everything still lined up. This week in the evening I need to finish the leveling of the base cabinets(leveling feet rule) and adjusting all the doors into alignment.

Finally, the exciting weekend! Aunt Jean came back down and helped us hang the cabinets. This actually turned out to be one of the easier parts of this kitchen remodel!
